Faraja Trust Fund is a
registered non-governmental organization founded in 1991.It is registered by
the Registrar of Trustees in Tanzania under the name of ‘Health for all trust
fund .In 1994 the stake holders requested the management to change the name of
organization to FARAJA TRUST FUND in order to reflect goal of organization
which was to alleviate suffering among the Vulnerable and Marginalized group
and individual in Morogoro. Its office is in Morogoro Municipality on plot
BB104, Kiserewende Street along old Dar es Salaam Road.
Faraja started
as a project to re-socialize 250 Commercial Sex Workers (CSWs) in Morogoro
Municipality. The SWs were the main reservoir of HIV/AIDS in Morogoro
Municipality and the surrounding areas. Along with HIV awareness and
prevention, the SWs were granted start-up funds for small-scale income
generating activities (IGAs) to enable them shift from the risky behavior
through formation of self-help groups for income generation. These strategies
encompassed extensive public awareness on HIV/AIDS, promotion of preventive
measures and provision of alternative measures for livelihood such as income
generating activities (IGAs) through giving the CSWs with start-up capital to
exploit the IGA opportunities that existed in Morogoro.
